The William J. Clinton Ideas Matter Essay Contest ~ will award a $2,500 scholarship to a junior or senior. To enter, write a 500 word (or less) essay on the following prompt ~ “In today’s interdependent world, there are many challenges facing America. Choose and define a domestic issue/problem. Arkansas Mentoring and Networking Association (AMNA) is sponsoring a lecture series to provide underrepresented minority and disadvantaged high school student’s exposure to outstanding STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) leaders. The purpose of AMNA is to assist students in developing valuable academic and professional mentor relationships, train students in networking and place students in paid summer internships and research programs. Students between 15 and 18 years old: If you have a passion for languages, go to www.NSLIforYouth.org to apply for a summer or academic year overseas immersion program. The National Security Language Initiative Program for Youth (NSLI-Y) provides opportunities for intensive language studies in a foreign country. Students are not required to have prior knowledge of the language to qualify. Brochures are available in the Guidance Office.
The Hugh O’Brian Leadership or HOBY ~ Attention sophomores: The HOBY is the nation’s foremost youth leadership development organization. HOBY programs teach students how to evolve socially and what it means to be a global citizen. You are encouraged to submit an application to represent your school and state at the Leadership Seminar in March of 2012. Applications can be found in the Guidance office until Tuesday, October 25.
